Please join us, Josh and Claire Cardenas, in celebrating the upcoming arrival of our first daughter, Catalina Marie Cardenas. We've enjoyed building our life together in Madison, Wisconsin, but being far from family and friends has made us miss you all dearly. The First Name

The name "Catalina" was chosen to honor Claire's maternal great-grandmother, Katalin Petrovics, but we’ve used the Spanish form to celebrate her mixed heritage. Katalin was born in Tarany, Hungary, on November 14th, 1897. She left Europe on February 1st, 1912, on the ship Caronia, bound for New York, and settled with her family in Akron, Ohio, where Katalin lived her entire life until her death on April 3rd, 1970.

The Middle Name

"Marie" was chosen in tribute to Joshua's mother, Maria Matilde Cardenas, switched to a different French variation to also celebrate her blended heritage. Mary was born in Pharr, Texas on January 10th, 1960, to a family of nine siblings. A mother of three boys, Mary has exemplified inner strength and endurance in the face of much adversity. She currently resides in McAllen, Texas.
